Contract Type: Temporary, Agency, Flexible Shifts, Zero-Hour Contract
Hours: Days, Evenings, Weekends, Nights and Bank Holidays as required
Residential Homes, Nursing Homes, Supported Living Services, and Domiciliary Care Services across Middlesbrough, Newcastle upon Tyne, Sunderland, Darlington, Redcar, Stockton-on-Tees, Gateshead, Durham, Leeds, and surrounding areas within the Central North East Region, United Kingdom.
Temporary Agency Worker / Zero-Hour Contract
Flexible shifts including Mornings, Afternoons, Evenings, Nights, Weekdays, Weekends, and Bank Holidays.
To provide high-quality, person-centred care and support to individuals living in residential homes, nursing homes, supported living services, and within their own homes. The Healthcare Assistant will promote independence, dignity, choice, privacy, and wellbeing while supporting service users with Activities of Daily Living (ADLs) and maintaining the highest standards of care.
The post holder will work independently or as part of a multidisciplinary team, ensuring that all care delivered reflects current legislation, best practice guidance, and GHS CARE values.
Assist service users with all aspects of personal care including washing, bathing, dressing, grooming, oral care, toileting, continence care, and mobility support.
Support individuals with Activities of Daily Living (ADLs) in accordance with their care plans.
Promote independence by encouraging service users to maintain and develop daily living skills wherever possible.
Provide emotional support, reassurance, and companionship to reduce isolation and improve wellbeing.
Support individuals living with dementia, learning disabilities, mental health conditions, or physical disabilities.
Respond promptly to requests for assistance and nurse call systems where applicable.
Assist with repositioning, transfers, and mobility using approved moving and handling techniques and equipment.
Encourage participation in social, recreational, and community-based activities.
Provide care and support within service users' own homes in accordance with agreed care plans.
Assist with medication administration or prompting in line with training, policies, and client requirements.
Support with meal preparation, hydration, and nutritional needs.
Carry out light domestic duties including cleaning, laundry, shopping, and maintaining a safe home environment.
Provide companionship and emotional support to service users.
Travel between service users' homes to deliver care visits according to scheduled rotas.
Maintain professional relationships with service users, family members, healthcare professionals, and other stakeholders.
Promote service users' independence, dignity, privacy, choice, and rights at all times.
Report any safeguarding concerns, health changes, or risks immediately through appropriate channels.
Observe and monitor service users' physical, emotional, and mental wellbeing.
Accurately document all care delivered and maintain clear, factual records.
Report any changes in condition, incidents, accidents, concerns, or safeguarding issues to senior staff.
Participate in handovers and communicate relevant information effectively.
Record all communication with healthcare professionals and members of the multidisciplinary team (MDT).
Adhere to the principle: "If it is not documented, it has not been done."
Communicate respectfully and professionally with service users, relatives, visitors, colleagues, and healthcare professionals.
Maintain professional boundaries at all times.
Deliver care that respects cultural, religious, and individual preferences.
Promote positive working relationships across all services.
Maintain high standards of cleanliness and infection prevention.
Follow infection control policies and safe working procedures.
Use Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) appropriately.
Ensure all environments and equipment are maintained safely and hygienically.
Report hazards, accidents, incidents, and near misses promptly.
Participate in fire safety procedures and emergency evacuation plans.
Support safe moving and handling practices.
Complete all mandatory training and annual refresher training required by GHS CARE.
Maintain competencies relevant to the role.
Apply learning from training into daily practice.
Participate in supervision, appraisals, competency assessments, and continuous professional development activities.

Maintain confidentiality and comply with GDPR and Data Protection legislation.

Minimum 6 months' experience in Domiciliary Care or Health and Social Care settings.
Experience supporting adults in residential, nursing, community, or domiciliary care environments.
Mandatory Healthcare Training (Theory and Practical Components).
Medication Administration/Medication Awareness Training.
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
Flexible approach to working hours and locations.
Eligible to work in the United Kingdom.
Enhanced DBS Certificate or willingness to obtain one.
Full UK Driving Licence.
Access to own vehicle with business insurance.
Willingness to travel between service users' homes.
NVQ/QCF Level 2 or Level 3 in Health and Social Care.
Dementia Awareness Training.
Safeguarding Adults Training.
Moving and Handling Training.
First Aid or Basic Life Support Training.
Flexible working hours available.

Rota-based scheduling.
